Yuka Saponaro is a primary-trained mathematics education facilitator with Maths Anxiety (MA), Gifted &Talented and Indigenous perspectives at Melba Copland Secondary School, ACT. She is also a practising teacher and a councillor of Canberra Mathematical Association. Yuka’s interest in MA research began as a preservice teacher influenced by her previous career as a holistic healthcare professional. She is currently exploring strength-based MA approaches with local community partnerships to help empower students (e.g. Maths-in-Sports-Health project). Yuka is also an ACT representative of the National Indigenous Commitment Statement Community whose state-based action plan includes re-engaging and extending students using her adaptation of Maths as Storytelling (Goompi Model), guided by her First Nations mentors.
